Probate, Estate, and Trust Administration...What Do You
Need to Know?

Sometimes people inadequately plan (or do not plan at all) for their death...This can result in a judge determining how a deceased person’s assets will be distributed in court, a process known as "probate."

Without proper planning, a deceased person’s estate must go through this process wherein a personal representative is appointed to gather and distribute the decedent’s assets. This can be a very time consuming process.

The personal representative is governed by strict rules that they must adhere to in administering and distributing the estate. In some cases, the probate process, if not handled correctly, can subject the matter to expensive and unnecessary litigation. Litigation can stem from the probate administration process, but can also be initiated by an individual trying to get the decedent’s will thrown out of court or deemed invalid.

Because Probate can be so complex and confusing, our firm has prepared "The Colorado Guide to Probate," a free tool designed to help consumers navigate this complicated web of information. Here is just some of what is included:

  • What to do first
  • How to deal with taxes, creditors, vehicles, safe deposit boxes, and disputes
  • How to pass assets on to heirs
  • What you need to know about taxes
  • Information on guardianships and conservatorships
  • How to cope with loss

Everyone's situation is unique...because different people have different concerns, we would also like to offer you a gift card for a FREE 30 Minute Consultation with a qualified professional. This meeting gives you the opportunity to ask questions and address any issues specific to your circumstances.
