Rest In Peace, Roger Moore

Roger Moore died this week at age 89, in the Swiss Alps that he loved. To many, he was the best James Bond of them all — confident in the face of every danger.

Even James Bond required preplanning

In the opening sequence of The Spy Who Loved Me, Moore is being chased by a host of gun-wielding Russian henchmen. Just as they are about to apprehend him, he sails off an immense cliff on his skis, gracefully soaring thousands of feet down before pulling the ripcord of his parachute, and landing like a cat in the soft powder. Film buffs describe the scene as the greatest stunt in all the James Bond films.

As breathtaking as the scene was, it required everyday planning. Moore had to have packed a parachute for just such an eventuality. More to the point, he worked with professionals who anticipated his needs, and provided guidance.
